Mac OS X 10.4.6: Photoshop CS 2 crashes when saving to server *FIXED*
Sadly, I haven't found a fix for it yet. Mac OS X 10.4.7 fixes this issue, so upgrade if you haven't already.

UPDATE: The best workaround for this problem (that is, Photoshop crashing when I try to save changes to a picture) for me seems to be to copy the final, modified image, close it without saving changes, making a new file, paste, flatten and save. Or, in keyboard shortcuts: Cmd-A, Cmd-C, Cmd-W, Cmd-D, Cmd-N, Cmd-V, Cmd-E, Cmd-S. I should probably make this sequence into a keyboard triggered action … I can then replace the original image by clicking it in the Save dialog to obtain the original file name.
UPDATE 2: To my initial delight I discovered that there’s an update out for Photoshop today: version 9.0.1. Sadly, though, this update does not fix this problem. Still looking …
UPDATE 3: It’s fixed! Mac OS X 10.4.7 includes a fix for “saving Adobe and Quark documents to AFP mounted volumes”. I can’t even begin to tell you how good it feels to open a .psd file from our server, modify it, and then save it back to the server without having Phothoshop crash on me …
The last few days Photoshop CS 2 has been crashing whenever I save something to the server at work.
Searching for a solution brought up this thread at discussions.apple.com which, sadly, doesn’t do it for me. There are numerous suggestions, including downgrading AppleShare stuff to 10.4.5, but they all have disadvantages or downright dangers associated with them.
The most benevolent fix (as in “less likely to screw up my computer”) is in a post down at the (current) bottom of the page:
get this file from your resources cd (packed in with the photoshop or creative suite cds): “DisableGetInfoComment.plugin” – copy this file into the folder: “Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS2/Plugins/Adobe Photoshop Only/Fileformat/” – Reboot Photoshop – Done
But this doesn’t work for me.
I found a similar thread over at Adobe’s support forums (requires login), but with the same suggestions.
An article at MacFixIt suggests deleting Photoshop’s preferences. This doesn’t work for me either.
So I’m still looking, postponing downgrading AppleShare as long as I can.
One thing’s for sure: Having Photoshop crash every time I save to the server is unacceptable.
Another thing’s for even surer: Both Apple and Adobe must be aware of this, so a fix should be out soon enough that it isn’t worth the potential big trouble of meddling deep in the OS to remedy it until then.

Thomas mentioned you were having trouble. Honestly, knee-jerk response is to not open files off the server. I sure as heck don’t let any of my users do it!
Beyond that, here is a link to Macintouch’s 10.4.6 report:
http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/macosx10_4_6/topic4180.html
which seems to suggest replacing Appletalk package would work.
Some dude in adobeforums seems willing to mail them to people in need (see viper’s postings):

Best o’ luck, but I still say saving files across the network is bad juju in general! Just drop ‘em on the desktop (or in a Jobs folder), work on them, then copy them back. This has worked flawlessly for us since 1990 or so, using TOPS networking and Farallon PhoneNet cabling. :-)
Truth be told, saving files locally and copying them to the server is not an option. We are several people who work with many files, and we have to work fast because we’re on a tight deadline. Working directly on the server has worked almost flawlessly for us, and the only times it doesn’t work is when humans screw up. But then there are server backups, and the content providers have their own copies locally.
I am, however, a bit surprised a fix hasn’t come from either party yet.
But thanks for the suggestions!
