December 20, 2005: Archive page!

Whee, now you can read my old articles too!

I took a few hours yesterday to research how to do an archive page for this site, and it wasn’t all that hard given that there’s an article called How do I make an archive page? over at textpattern.com. It requires Textpattern 4.02 or better, but since I’m cutting-edge, that’s no problem! (Well, it’s been a few weeks since I did an ‘svn update’, so my edge might be getting a little dull.)

Although it shows readers how many articles I’ve written and when, it’s not the main purpose of the page. As search engine bots crawl my pages, they have to have some way of getting at the articles older than the ones that show up on the front page (which also needs some serious work at the moment) or in the sidebar, or else they will think they’re gone and remove them from their databases. And then people won’t find them anymore.

So, we’ll see what this does for traffic.
